Kris wanted "lellow” cowboy boots when she was three. And because she got them, she thinks the world is just and right. She may never know that for months, her mother scraped together pennies to give them to her.
There is a picture of Kris posing against a tree in Bingham Canyon Park wearing size 3T Levis, a homemade ruffled shirt, a rainbow-colored belt, yellow cowboy boots and a wrinkled smile showing the pride and humility that a three-year-old can muster when posing for a picture that she unconsciously knows will be her defining photo until she dies.
“All I want is lellow cowboy boots.” So a mother provides and makes a game of giving up milk and bread and eggs for months so the world really is just and right.
And a miracle happens; she grows up, giving and sharing all she has with children who want and hope for things we take for granted.
